Should you turn off memory integrity for gaming? For most gamers, the answer is no: leave Memory Integrity on. It usually costs only a few percent in frame rate, and it blocks a serious class of driver-based attacks.

The exceptions are competitive players who are CPU-bound, owners of older processors, and anyone using undervolting tools or hardware with incompatible drivers. If you fall into one of those groups, test your own games before deciding.

, that Windows quality updates will begin turning Memory Integrity on for eligible Windows 11 devices starting in October. The first update with the change is expected on Patch Tuesday, October 13, and the rollout will be gradual, so not every PC will get it at the same time.

Memory Integrity, also called Hypervisor-protected Code Integrity (HVCI) and found under Core Isolation, uses virtualization to build an isolated space where Windows checks kernel code. It makes sure only verified kernel-mode code loads, which blocks unsigned rootkits and raises the barrier to driver-based kernel attacks.

The feature is not new. It already runs by default on clean Windows 11 installations and on Secured-core PCs. The October change targets the many PCs where it never got switched on, such as machines upgraded from Windows 10. If Virtualization-based Security (VBS) isn't already running, the same updates will enable that too.

lists the requirements as an 8th-generation Intel Core or newer CPU or AMD Zen 2 or newer, at least 8GB of RAM, a 64GB SSD, virtualization enabled in firmware, and drivers confirmed compatible with Memory Integrity. One caveat is that 11th-generation Core desktop processors are not part of Microsoft's current default-enablement logic, although Microsoft still recommends the feature on that platform.

If you have already turned it off, Microsoft says it will respect that. Settings made through the registry, Group Policy, or Intune stay in place. Coverage varies on exactly how Windows recognizes a manual opt-out, so check your status after the update instead of assuming.

It depends on your CPU, your game, and whether the game is limited by CPU or GPU. The available tests, most of them older, point to a small average loss with larger drops in the worst frames.

The "up to 15%" headline traces back to the worst case. A 2021 ten-game test on a Core i7-12700KF found a 7% average deficit and a 15% deficit in 1% lows with VBS on, and it cautioned that more GPU-limited conditions could shrink the impact to around 5%. Treat 15% as a ceiling for specific CPU-bound situations, not what a typical gamer will see.

One more point. Microsoft acknowledged in 2022 that Memory Integrity and Virtual Machine Platform could affect gaming performance on some Windows 11 configurations, and it advised performance-focused gamers they could temporarily disable them, at the cost of security.

Consider turning it off only if at least one of these applies:

If you mostly play GPU-limited games at 1440p or 4K, you will likely never notice it.

Turning it off removes a kernel-level protection layer. XDA Developers warns against disabling it preemptively just to stop Windows from enabling it, because an attacker could exploit a vulnerable driver to gain kernel-level access to your PC. The risk is modest if you only install trusted software, but it is real, especially on a PC you also use for banking and work.

Don't turn it off on a hunch. Run the same game, scene, resolution, and graphics preset before and after toggling Memory Integrity, and compare both average frame rate and 1% lows. If the difference is negligible, leave it on.

How to Check or Turn Off Memory Integrity

Open Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > Device security, then select Core isolation details under Core isolation. Use the

If the toggle is grayed out or reports a problem, an incompatible driver is the usual cause. Older anti-cheat software, RGB utilities, and hardware drivers are common culprits. Microsoft's guidance is to look for an updated driver from Windows Update or the manufacturer first, and to turn Memory Integrity off only if that doesn't work. Updating the driver is the better fix because it keeps both security and your hardware working.

Will Windows 11 turn on Memory Integrity automatically?

Yes, on eligible PCs. Microsoft is rolling it out gradually through quality updates starting in October 2026, and it respects existing opt-outs.

Sometimes. Typical losses in the tests above range from low single digits up to roughly 6–8% in CPU-limited cases, with worse 1% lows in some games.

It is safe enough for many careful users, but it removes a kernel-level protection that helps block malicious or vulnerable drivers. Weigh a measured FPS gain against that risk.

No. Memory Integrity is a feature that runs on top of VBS. Turning Memory Integrity on also turns VBS on.

Memory Integrity is a good default for most gaming PCs, and the FPS cost is usually small. Measure your own games, update any driver that blocks it, and turn it off only when you see a clear, repeatable loss in a CPU-bound title or when it conflicts with tools you need. This article will be updated after October 13 as real-world reports come in.

Will Your PC Get It Automatically?

Windows checks whether a PC is ready before it changes anything. PCWorld lists the requirements as an 8th-generation Intel Core or newer CPU or AMD Zen 2 or newer, at least 8GB of RAM, a 64GB SSD, virtualization enabled in firmware, and drivers confirmed compatible with Memory Integrity. How Much FPS Does Memory Integrity Cost?

It depends on your CPU, your game, and whether the game is limited by CPU or GPU. The available tests, most of them older, point to a small average loss with larger drops in the worst frames.

Four-CPU test with an RTX 3090 at 1080p: One summary of Tom's Hardware testing puts the HVCI average loss between 3.3% and 5.7%, depending on the processor.

Why newer CPUs fare better: Tom's Hardware found that Mode Based Execution Control (MBEC) reduces HVCI's impact to nearly the level of VBS alone.

High-end GPU test: Tom's Hardware found that disabling VBS improved performance by around 10% in its RTX 4090 testing, with 1% lows rising by as much as 15%. The same piece put the average loss at about 5% and said many people with less extreme hardware will likely see low single-digit losses.

CPU-limited test: XDA Developers cited a Ryzen 7 5800X and Radeon RX 7900 XTX test at 1280×720 where HVCI reportedly cut average frame rate by 6% and worsened frame times by 8%.

One more point. Microsoft acknowledged in 2022 that Memory Integrity and Virtual Machine Platform could affect gaming performance on some Windows 11 configurations, and it advised performance-focused gamers they could temporarily disable them, at the cost of security.

Who Should Consider Turning It Off?

Consider turning it off only if at least one of these applies:

You play CPU-bound competitive games at very high frame rates. The overhead lands on the CPU, so esports titles on mid-range processors are where the loss shows up most.

You use an older CPU. The older the processor, the more likely it lacks the hardware features that reduce the penalty.

You rely on undervolting tools. Reports say Memory Integrity can interfere with undervolting tools such as ThrottleStop and Intel XTU.

An incompatible driver breaks a device you need. Windows will tell you which driver is the problem, and that is covered below.

If you mostly play GPU-limited games at 1440p or 4K, you will likely never notice it.

The Security Trade-Off

Turning it off removes a kernel-level protection layer. XDA Developers warns against disabling it preemptively just to stop Windows from enabling it, because an attacker could exploit a vulnerable driver to gain kernel-level access to your PC. The risk is modest if you only install trusted software, but it is real, especially on a PC you also use for banking and work.

Also note that turning Memory Integrity off on a Secured-core PC takes the device out of a Secured-core state.

How to Test It Before You Decide

Don't turn it off on a hunch. Run the same game, scene, resolution, and graphics preset before and after toggling Memory Integrity, and compare both average frame rate and 1% lows. If the difference is negligible, leave it on.

A practical method:

Pick a repeatable scene or the game's built-in benchmark.

Record three runs with a tool such as CapFrameX or PresentMon, and average them.

Turn Memory Integrity off, restart, and repeat.

Compare average FPS and 1% lows. A gain of under about 3–5% is usually not worth the lost protection.

important? Yes, because they monitor unsafe electrical, thermal, and load conditions and can shut down the power supply before a fault causes more serious damage.

These abbreviations often appear together on a power supply specification sheet, but each protection responds to a different problem. Understanding them makes it easier to compare PSUs beyond wattage and efficiency ratings.

Power supply protections use monitoring circuits and temperature sensors to watch voltage, current, total output, short circuits, internal heat, and unusual load conditions. When a measured value crosses the manufacturer’s safety threshold, the PSU can limit its output or shut down.

These protections should be checked separately from an efficiency badge.

OVP vs UVP: Power Supply Voltage Protection Explained

, or Over-Voltage Protection, activates when a PSU’s DC output voltage rises above a defined safety threshold. Excessive voltage on the 12V, 5V, or 3.3V rails can place connected components under electrical stress, so the PSU shuts down when the protection circuit detects an unsafe level.

, or Under-Voltage Protection, responds when an output voltage falls below its permitted range. Components supplied with insufficient voltage may become unstable, restart, freeze, or stop operating correctly.

OVP monitors the PSU’s output voltage. It does not replace an external surge protector or UPS designed to handle problems coming from the wall outlet.

OCP vs OPP: Current and Total Power Protection

, or Over-Current Protection, monitors how much electrical current passes through an output rail or circuit. It activates when current exceeds the protection threshold, helping reduce the risk of overloaded cables, connectors, and internal components.

, or Over-Power Protection, monitors the PSU’s total output. It can shut the unit down when the complete system attempts to draw more power than the PSU can safely provide.

The distinction is simple: OCP responds to excessive current in a monitored output, while OPP responds to excessive total power draw. Their exact trigger points vary between PSU designs and are usually set above normal operating levels so brief, expected GPU power changes do not cause unnecessary shutdowns.

If a PC repeatedly turns off during gaming or rendering, OPP or OCP may be reacting to excessive load, incorrect cabling, a hardware fault, or an unsuitable PSU. Repeated protection trips should be investigated instead of treated as normal operation.

SCP and OTP: Short-Circuit and Overheating Protection

Intel’s power-supply design guidance defines both short-circuit shutdown and temperature-triggered shutdown as important protective behavior. After either protection activates, turn the computer off and inspect its external cables, ventilation, filters, and system load. Never open the PSU enclosure, because hazardous voltage can remain inside.

Intel’s power-supply design guidance states that a PSU should not become damaged or create a hazard when all DC output connectors are disconnected. Depending on the design, the power supply may continue operating safely or enter a shutdown state.

NLP should not be confused with zero RPM mode. NLP concerns electrical operation when there is no meaningful output load, while zero RPM mode simply stops the cooling fan when temperature and power demand are low.

OVP vs UVP: Power Supply Voltage Protection Explained

OVP

OVP, or Over-Voltage Protection, activates when a PSU’s DC output voltage rises above a defined safety threshold. Excessive voltage on the 12V, 5V, or 3.3V rails can place connected components under electrical stress, so the PSU shuts down when the protection circuit detects an unsafe level.

UVP

UVP, or Under-Voltage Protection, responds when an output voltage falls below its permitted range.

OCP

OCP, or Over-Current Protection, monitors how much electrical current passes through an output rail or circuit. It activates when current exceeds the protection threshold, helping reduce the risk of overloaded cables, connectors, and internal components.

OPP

OPP, or Over-Power Protection, monitors the PSU’s total output. It can shut the unit down when the complete system attempts to draw more power than the PSU can safely provide.

SCP

SCP, or Short-Circuit Protection, reacts when electricity finds an unintended low-resistance path. This can result from a damaged cable, faulty connector, loose conductive object, or failed component. The PSU cuts its output to prevent the fault from continuing through the system.

OTP

OTP, or Over-Temperature Protection, shuts down the PSU when its internal temperature reaches a preset limit. Possible causes include sustained overload, blocked ventilation, heavy dust buildup, excessive ambient temperature, or a failed cooling fan.

What Is NLP? No-Load Protection Explained

NLP

NLP, commonly called No-Load Protection and listed by darkFlash as Zero Load (NLP), covers situations where the power supply has little or no load connected to its DC outputs. Under this unusual condition, the PSU must remain electrically stable and avoid damage or hazardous behavior.

Are PC cases with built-in screens worth it? Yes, if you want visible system monitoring and a more personalized desktop setup, but the screen should never take priority over airflow, component compatibility, or build quality.

A built-in display can show CPU and GPU temperatures, fan speeds, system usage, animations, or custom artwork without requiring a separate sensor panel. Its practical value depends heavily on where the PC sits and how often you actually look at it.

What Can a PC Case With a Built-In Screen Display?

Most screen-equipped PC cases use dedicated software to display hardware data or custom visual content. Depending on the model, this may include CPU temperature, GPU temperature, fan speed, system load, clocks, images, and videos.

integrates a 6-inch IPS screen into its front panel. Its control software supports system information and customizable visual themes, while compatible content can include JPG, PNG, and MP4 files.

The screen does not increase gaming performance or improve cooling by itself. Its purpose is to make system information easier to see and give the PC a stronger visual identity.

What Are the Benefits of a Built-In PC Case Screen?

The biggest advantage is integration. A screen designed as part of the case usually looks cleaner than a separate display attached with brackets, adhesive, or exposed external cables.

Real-time monitoring can also be useful during gaming, rendering, or stress testing. A quick glance may reveal an unexpected temperature increase or a fan that is behaving differently. Custom animations and artwork add another layer of personalization, especially in panoramic cases where the entire build is meant to remain visible.

This feature makes the most sense when the PC sits on the desk with its screen facing the user. If the case is under the desk or turned away, much of its practical and visual value disappears.

What Are the Drawbacks of PC Cases With Screens?

A built-in display adds another device, cable, and software layer to the system. Some screens require an internal USB connection, so builders should check how many USB 2.0 headers their motherboard provides.

This becomes relevant when an AIO cooler, RGB controller, fan hub, or other accessory also needs the same type of header. An internal USB hub may be required if the motherboard does not have enough connections.

Software support matters as well. Monitoring features and custom media may depend on the manufacturer’s application running correctly. Buyers should check operating-system support and driver availability before purchasing.

How to Choose a PC Case With a Built-In Screen

Start with the same requirements used for any gaming case: motherboard support, GPU clearance, CPU cooler height, radiator compatibility, airflow, dust filtration, front I/O, and cable-management space. Treat the display as an additional feature after those essentials are confirmed.

The DS950V, for example, supports ATX, Micro-ATX, and Mini-ITX motherboards, graphics cards up to 400mm, air coolers up to 180mm, and top-mounted radiators up to 360mm. It also combines its screen with a pillarless 270-degree panoramic design and front USB Type-C connectivity.

Before buying any screen-equipped case, confirm that the display faces your normal seating position, the required software supports your system, and the motherboard has the necessary internal connections.

PC cases with built-in screens are worth considering for users who keep their PC on the desk, monitor temperatures regularly, or enjoy customizing the visual style of their build. The feature offers less value when the computer is hidden under a desk or when the screen consumes budget needed for better cooling or core components.

A model such as the darkFlash DS950V combines its 6-inch IPS display with practical hardware compatibility and panoramic presentation. As long as the case meets the system’s cooling and space requirements first, the screen can be a useful and enjoyable addition rather than a purely decorative extra.

Is your PSU fan not spinning while your PC is on? It may be working exactly as designed:

many power supplies use a zero RPM mode that keeps the fan off at low loads and starts it when cooling is needed. The key is to check your PSU’s specifications and look for other signs of trouble before assuming the fan has failed.

Why Is My PSU Fan Not Spinning? Zero RPM Mode Explained

A power supply does not always need active fan cooling. In zero RPM, hybrid, or fan-stop mode, its fan remains still while the unit is operating within the manufacturer’s temperature and load limits. It starts automatically when those limits are reached. The exact behavior varies by model, so there is no universal wattage or temperature at which every PSU fan should turn on.

Not necessarily. A game may increase power consumption without pushing a particular PSU past its fan-start threshold, especially if the unit has plenty of capacity for the system. Some fans also spin briefly at startup and then stop. Fan behavior depends on the

, so use the product manual as your reference rather than expecting the fan to run whenever a game launches.

How Can You Check a PSU Fan That Is Not Spinning?

First, identify the exact PSU model and check whether it supports zero RPM or has a fan-stop switch. Then observe it during ordinary use: does the PC remain stable, and does the fan start when the PSU needs cooling? Power off and unplug the PC before checking whether a dust filter or nearby surface blocks the PSU’s external air intake.

Never open the power supply or insert anything through its fan grille.

Internal components can carry dangerous voltage, and a stationary fan alone is not a reason to attempt a repair.

When Is a Stopped PSU Fan a Warning Sign?

a documented fan-stop mode never spins, or if the PC begins shutting down unexpectedly, producing a burning smell, or making new mechanical noises. Turn the system off and contact the manufacturer or retailer for diagnosis. Even with a zero RPM model, a fan that never starts alongside these symptoms deserves professional attention. Do not use a demanding game as a stress test when you already suspect a fault.

A still PSU fan is often a feature, not a failure. For example, the Taiwan listings for the

Never open the power supply or insert anything through its fan grille. Internal components can carry dangerous voltage, and a stationary fan alone is not a reason to attempt a repair.

When Is a Stopped PSU Fan a Warning Sign?

Take the issue seriously if a PSU without a documented fan-stop mode never spins, or if the PC begins shutting down unexpectedly, producing a burning smell, or making new mechanical noises. Turn the system off and contact the manufacturer or retailer for diagnosis. Even with a zero RPM model, a fan that never starts alongside these symptoms deserves professional attention. Do not use a demanding game as a stress test when you already suspect a fault.

Final Thoughts

A still PSU fan is often a feature, not a failure. For example, the Taiwan listings for the darkFlash PMT Series Power Supply specify an ECO low-load zero-noise mode. Check your own model’s specifications first; if the fan behavior comes with instability or other warning signs, stop using the PC and seek support.

A PSU fan that is not spinning may be operating in zero RPM mode. Learn when fan-stop behavior is normal, what you can check safely, and which symptoms call for support.

Should you use HDMI or DisplayPort for your monitor? For most PC gaming monitors, DisplayPort is usually the safer choice for high refresh rates and multi-monitor setups, while HDMI is better for TVs, game consoles, soundbars, and home entertainment devices.

Buying a new monitor or graphics card often leads to the same question: which cable should you actually plug in? HDMI and DisplayPort can both carry high-resolution video, audio, HDR, and high refresh rates, but they are not always equal in real-world use. The best choice depends on your monitor, graphics card, refresh rate, HDR needs, and whether you are connecting a PC, console, or TV.

What Makes HDMI the Best Choice for Consoles, TVs, and Living Room Setups?

HDMI was originally built around consumer electronics, which is why it is everywhere: TVs, game consoles, projectors, capture cards, soundbars, AV receivers, and monitors all commonly use HDMI. If you are connecting a PlayStation, Xbox, living room PC, or gaming TV, HDMI is usually the most convenient option.

bandwidth, enough for features like 4K 120Hz, 8K 60Hz, HDR, VRR, and eARC when the device, display, and cable all support the required features. HDMI 2.2 is now the latest HDMI specification, but HDMI 2.1 remains the version most PC gamers and console users will still see in product listings.

” on a spec sheet does not always guarantee every HDMI 2.1 feature. Some monitors and GPUs may support only certain bandwidth levels or feature sets, so always check the actual resolution, refresh rate, color depth, VRR, and HDR support instead of relying on the version number alone.

Why DisplayPort Remains the Gold Standard for Desktop PC Gaming Monitors

DisplayPort was designed mainly for computer displays, which is why it is so common on graphics cards and gaming monitors. If you are using a desktop PC with a high-refresh-rate monitor, DisplayPort is often the first cable you should try.

is still widely used and can handle high-resolution gaming with the help of Display Stream Compression, commonly known as DSC.

goes further, with certified DP40 and DP80 cables supporting up to

maximum link bandwidth respectively, depending on the cable and device support.

DisplayPort also has one feature HDMI does not focus on in the same way: daisy chaining through Multi-Stream Transport. On supported monitors, this allows multiple displays to connect through a single DisplayPort output, which can be useful for productivity setups and workstations.

Resolution, Refresh Rate, and Bandwidth: Why Your GPU, Cable, and Monitor Must Match

On paper, HDMI and DisplayPort both support excellent image quality. In practice, your final resolution and refresh rate depend on the full chain: GPU output, monitor input, cable quality, color depth, chroma format, HDR mode, and whether compression is being used.

, but that does not mean every port on the monitor can run that mode at full quality. Some monitors reserve their highest PC refresh rates for DisplayPort, while HDMI may be aimed more at consoles or limited to a different mode. On the other hand, a gaming TV may offer its best features through HDMI because DisplayPort is usually absent from TVs.

If your monitor and graphics card both include HDMI and DisplayPort, DisplayPort is often the safer starting point for PC gaming. If you are connecting to a TV, console, capture card, or AV setup, HDMI usually makes more sense.

HDR, G-Sync, FreeSync, and Cable Certification: Avoiding the Black Screen Bottleneck

Both HDMI and DisplayPort can support HDR and variable refresh rate technologies, but the result depends on the device and cable. An old HDMI cable or low-quality DisplayPort cable may still show an image, but fail to deliver the monitor’s highest refresh rate, HDR color depth, or stable signal.

For HDMI, look for officially certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cables if you need HDMI 2.1-class features such as

, HDR, and VRR. For DisplayPort, look for certified DP40 or DP80 cables if you are buying for DisplayPort 2.1 hardware. For common DisplayPort 1.4 gaming setups, a quality certified cable is still recommended, especially at high refresh rates.

This is also why monitor upgrades sometimes feel confusing. The monitor may be capable, the graphics card may be capable, but the cable may be the weak link. If your new monitor cannot enable its advertised refresh rate or HDR mode, checking the cable and port version should be one of the first troubleshooting steps.

Final Thoughts: Should You Plug In HDMI or DisplayPort for Your Rig?

HDMI and DisplayPort are both powerful display connections, but they are best suited for different setups. HDMI is the better all-around choice for TVs, consoles, AV equipment, and home entertainment. DisplayPort is usually the better first choice for PC gaming monitors, high refresh rates, multi-monitor setups, and desktop graphics cards.

If your monitor supports both, start with DisplayPort for a gaming PC and HDMI for consoles or TVs. More importantly, check the actual supported resolution, refresh rate, HDR mode, VRR support, and cable certification. The right cable will not make a slow monitor faster, but the wrong cable can stop a good monitor from reaching its full potential.

Not always. HDMI 2.1 has high theoretical bandwidth, but real-world performance depends on the monitor, GPU, cable, and supported features. For PC gaming monitors, DisplayPort 1.4 can still be the better practical choice when the monitor’s highest refresh rate is designed around DP.

Can I use an old HDMI cable with a new monitor?

Yes, but it may not support the monitor’s maximum refresh rate, HDR mode, or VRR features. If you are using 4K 120Hz or higher, an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable is recommended.

Yes, but adapters can limit resolution, refresh rate, HDR, or VRR support. For high-refresh gaming, it is usually better to use a native HDMI-to-HDMI or DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort connection.

DisplayPort vs HDMI for Gaming: Which Monitor Cable Should You Use?

darkFlash DMP300 Tempered Glass Gaming Mousepad

Are glass mouse pads good for FPS gaming?

Yes, glass mouse pads can be excellent for FPS players who want a faster, smoother, lower-friction glide, but they are not ideal for everyone because they require better mouse control, more frequent cleaning, and faster mouse feet maintenance than regular cloth pads.

Glass mouse pads have become a popular topic in gaming communities because they feel very different from traditional cloth mouse pads. Instead of a soft, controlled surface, glass offers a slicker glide with less drag, making fast flicks and small tracking movements feel more immediate.

For players who use lightweight gaming mice and prefer speed-focused aiming, that can be a real advantage. For players who rely on heavy stopping power, however, the adjustment period can be noticeable.

Glass mouse pads feel smoother because their surface is harder, flatter, and lower-friction than most cloth pads. Using the darkFlash DMP300 as an example, its tempered glass and silicone-based construction, matte surface treatment, and micro-etched texture are designed to reduce drag while still keeping a usable level of control.

That is the key point: low friction does not mean zero feedback. A good glass mouse pad should feel fast and consistent, not slippery in a random way. When paired with a lightweight gaming mouse, the difference becomes even more obvious because less force is needed to start and stop movement. This can make desktop use, tracking, and quick aiming feel cleaner, especially for users coming from slower cloth surfaces.

A glass mouse pad can work very well for FPS games, especially for players who like fast movement, smooth tracking, and precise micro-adjustments. It is often easier to feel the benefit in games with longer time-to-kill, where continuous tracking and small corrections matter more than one single flick.

That said, glass is not automatically better for every FPS player. If you play with very high sensitivity or prefer strong stopping power, the surface may feel too fast at first. Players who spray continuously or make repeated small corrections may need time to adjust their aim style. Lowering mouse sensitivity, using a sleeve, or switching to suitable mouse skates can make the transition easier.

Mouse Feet Wear Is the Real Cost of Glass Mouse Pads

The biggest practical downside of glass mouse pads is mouse feet wear. Since glass is much harder than cloth, mouse skates can wear down faster depending on how often you play, how much pressure you apply, and what type of mouse feet you use.

Some users may go a long time without noticing serious wear, while heavy FPS players may feel the surface change sooner. The best habit is to check the edges of your mouse feet regularly. If they become rough, uneven, or start creating a scratchy feeling, glide consistency and aiming stability can both suffer. Keeping replacement mouse feet ready is a smart idea if you plan to use a glass pad as your main gaming surface.

How to Clean and Maintain a Glass Mouse Pad

Glass mouse pads are usually easier to wipe clean than cloth pads, but they may need cleaning more often. Dust, sweat marks, fingerprints, and tiny particles can affect the glide because the surface is so smooth. A slightly damp microfiber cloth is usually enough for daily cleaning.

Fogging is another thing to watch for. In colder rooms, humid weather, or long gaming sessions with sweaty hands, the surface can fog up due to temperature differences. This does not mean the pad is defective, but it can affect glide consistency. Wiping the surface regularly or using a gaming sleeve can help reduce the issue. The darkFlash DMP300’s hydrophobic and oleophobic surface treatment can also help make dirt and sweat easier to remove.

Final Thoughts: Should You Buy a Glass Mouse Pad for FPS?

A glass mouse pad is worth considering if you want a fast, smooth, low-friction gaming surface and are willing to maintain it properly. It is especially appealing for FPS players who enjoy quick flicks, smooth tracking, lightweight mice, and precise micro-adjustments.

However, it is not a universal upgrade. If you prefer a slower, more controlled surface, or if you do not want to think about mouse feet wear and regular cleaning, a cloth pad may still be the better fit. For players who want to try glass without losing too much stability, choosing a tempered glass model like the darkFlash DMP300, with a treated surface and anti-slip honeycomb base, can offer a more balanced experience between speed, control, and everyday usability.

Will a glass mouse pad feel too slippery for FPS gaming?

It depends on your sensitivity and aiming style. If your current sensitivity is high, lowering it slightly can make a glass mouse pad easier to control.

How often do mouse feet need to be replaced on a glass mouse pad?

There is no fixed schedule. It depends on usage time, pressure, and mouse feet material. Replace them when the glide feels uneven, scratchy, or inconsistent.

How do you fix fogging on a glass mouse pad?

Wipe the surface with a slightly damp microfiber cloth. If fogging happens often, using a sleeve can reduce direct skin contact and help keep the glide more consistent.

How much space does a gaming PC case need around the wall?

A gaming PC should usually have at least 2 to 4 inches of open space around its main intake and exhaust areas, and more if the system uses a high-end GPU, top-mounted radiator, or rear exhaust pushed directly toward a wall.

Many PC builders spend hours choosing the right CPU cooler, graphics card, and case fans, but forget one simple detail: where the PC actually sits. Even a well-designed airflow case can run hotter and louder if the rear panel is pressed against a wall, the top exhaust is blocked by a desk shelf, or the side intake is trapped next to furniture.

How Much Clearance Does a Gaming PC Case Actually Need?

For most gaming PCs, a good rule of thumb is to leave around 2 to 4 inches of space behind the rear exhaust, above the top panel, and around any side or front intake areas. This gives hot air enough room to leave the case instead of bouncing back into the system.

The exact number depends on the case layout. A simple mid-tower with front intake and rear exhaust may be fine with a few inches of rear clearance. A high-performance build with a 360mm AIO liquid cooler, multiple exhaust fans, and a large graphics card needs more breathing room because it moves more heat out of the chassis.

The most important thing is not just distance, but airflow direction. If your case pulls air from the front, do not push the front panel directly against a cabinet door. If your case exhausts from the top, avoid placing it under a tight desk shelf. If your GPU relies on bottom or side intake, make sure those areas are not blocked by carpet, walls, or other objects.

Why Rear and Top Exhaust Space Matters for Gaming PC Airflow

Rear and top exhaust fans are where most hot air leaves a gaming PC. The CPU cooler, VRM area, graphics card backplate, and radiator all dump heat into the upper and rear sections of the case, so blocking those areas can raise internal temperatures quickly.

This matters even more with modern gaming PCs. Large GPUs often release a lot of heat into the case, while AIO radiators mounted at the top need open space above them to push warm air away. If the top of the case is too close to a shelf, the radiator fans may recycle warm air, making the CPU cooler less effective.

A PC that cannot exhaust heat cleanly will often compensate by increasing fan speed. That means more noise, more dust movement, and sometimes lower boost clocks under long gaming sessions. In other words, bad placement can make expensive cooling hardware feel worse than it actually is.

What Happens When a PC Case Is Too Close to a Wall?

When a PC case is too close to a wall, hot air can reflect back toward the case instead of dispersing into the room. This is especially common with rear exhaust fans and power supply exhaust areas. The system may still work, but temperatures can climb during longer gaming, rendering, or AI workloads.

You may notice symptoms like louder fan noise, higher CPU or GPU temperatures, warmer glass side panels, or sudden performance drops after 20 to 30 minutes of load. These problems are easy to mistake for a weak cooler or bad fan curve, when the real issue is simply that the PC cannot breathe.

This is also why tight cabinets are risky for gaming PCs. A cabinet can trap heat around the whole system, even if the case itself has good airflow. If you must place your PC inside a desk compartment, make sure the compartment has open front and rear ventilation, not just a small cable hole.

How to Place Your Gaming PC for Lower Temperatures and Less Noise

The best gaming PC placement gives every airflow opening a clear path. Keep the rear of the case away from the wall, leave open space above top exhaust fans, and avoid blocking mesh or side intake panels. If the case sits on the floor, use a hard surface instead of thick carpet so bottom intake and PSU airflow are not restricted.

Cable management also matters. Thick power cables, monitor cables, and USB hubs can crowd the rear of the case and reduce exhaust space. A full modular PSU can help keep unused cables out of the build, while a case with generous rear cable space makes the system cleaner and easier to cool.

For darkFlash users, this is where case design, cooling, and power all connect. A case with thoughtful airflow paths, properly placed case fans, enough radiator clearance, and clean PSU cable routing gives the system more room to stay stable. Whether you use an air cooler, AIO liquid cooler, or multiple case fans, placement outside the case is just as important as airflow inside the case.

Final Thoughts: Give Your Gaming PC Room to Breathe

A gaming PC case does not need a huge empty room around it, but it does need clear space where air enters and exits. Leaving a few inches around the rear, top, front, and side airflow zones can reduce heat buildup, lower fan noise, and help your CPU and GPU maintain stable performance.

Before buying a new cooler or adding more fans, check where your PC sits first. Sometimes the simplest upgrade is moving the case slightly away from the wall. For new builds, choosing a well-ventilated darkFlash case, pairing it with suitable air or liquid cooling, and using a stable power supply with clean cable routing can make the whole system easier to cool from day one.

How Much Space Does a Gaming PC Case Need Around the Wall? Airflow Clearance Explained

Are curved glass PC cases easy to break? Not necessarily. The real risk is not the curved shape itself, but the quality of the tempered glass process, the mounting structure, edge protection, and how stress is distributed around the panel.

Tempered glass always carries a very small risk of spontaneous breakage, whether it is flat or curved. Curved glass adds one more manufacturing step, so quality control becomes even more important. That is why choosing a reliable brand and a well-supported glass structure matters more than simply asking whether the panel is curved.

Why Can Tempered Glass Shatter by Itself?

Tempered glass can rarely “shatter by itself” because of the way it is made. Taiwan’s Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection explains that spontaneous breakage can happen without outside impact, mainly because of tiny nickel sulfide impurities inside the glass. During tempering, glass is heated and rapidly cooled, creating internal stress. If unstable impurities remain inside, they may expand over time and cause the glass to break.

According to CNS 2217 information cited by the Bureau, ordinary tempered glass has an estimated spontaneous breakage rate of about

, while heat-soaked tempered glass can reduce that risk to around

. Both types can still meet quality requirements, but heat soaking is a useful safety detail to ask about when choosing a glass-heavy PC case.

The weakest part of a tempered glass panel is usually not the center, but the edge or corner. When force hits the middle of the glass, the stress can spread outward. When force hits a corner, there is less material and support area to absorb it. This is why PC case glass panels often break after a corner impact, a hard floor contact, or uneven pressure during installation.

This also explains why the mounting method matters. If screws are drilled directly through the weakest corner areas of the glass, the design can create extra stress points. A safer structure should support the glass through a frame, rail, or protected mounting area, instead of concentrating force on exposed glass corners.

Is Curved Glass More Dangerous Than Flat Glass?

Curved glass is not automatically weaker than flat glass, but it is harder to manufacture well. A curved tempered glass panel usually requires a heat-bending process before final tempering. If the curve angle, mold accuracy, heating temperature, or cooling process is not controlled properly, stress may become uneven around the curved area.

That is the real difference. Flat tempered glass is simpler to produce. Curved tempered glass requires better tooling, tighter process control, and stronger quality checks. For buyers, this means brand reputation, market feedback, and real user reviews matter more when choosing a curved glass PC case.

A safer curved glass PC case should not rely only on magnets or loose clips. Convenience is useful, but a large curved glass panel needs stable support, especially during movement, cleaning, or transportation.

According to CNS 2217 information cited by the Bureau, ordinary tempered glass has an estimated spontaneous breakage rate of about 3 in 1,000, while heat-soaked tempered glass can reduce that risk to around 1 in 50,000. Both types can still meet quality requirements, but heat soaking is a useful safety detail to ask about when choosing a glass-heavy PC case.

What Makes a Curved Glass PC Case Safer?

A safer curved glass PC case should not rely only on magnets or loose clips. Convenience is useful, but a large curved glass panel needs stable support, especially during movement, cleaning, or transportation.

The darkFlash DS900G, for example, uses a one-piece panoramic curved tempered glass design and product listings show a bottom locking screw for the glass panel. User reviews also note that the glass should be removed only after laying the case flat, because the panel is large and heavy.

When choosing a curved glass case, check these details:

Does the glass use a frame, rail, or screw-supported structure?

Are the screws mounted through support areas instead of exposed glass corners?

Does the product have real user reviews and teardown photos?

Is the packaging designed to protect the glass during shipping?

Does the brand clearly explain how to remove and reinstall the glass safely?

How to Use a Curved Glass PC Case Safely

Even with a strong case design, daily use still matters. Avoid hitting the glass edges with tools, keys, desk corners, or metal accessories. If the case is under the desk, make sure it will not be kicked. If it is on the desk, avoid placing heavy objects above it where they could fall onto the glass.

For cleaning, use a soft microfiber cloth and avoid hard scraping tools. Curved glass has more surface shape than a flat panel, so aggressive cleaning near the edge can create small scratches or stress marks over time. If you are especially concerned about glass breakage, a safety film can be considered. It cannot fully prevent spontaneous breakage, but it may reduce glass scatter if the panel breaks.

FAQ

Q1: Are curved glass PC cases easier to break than flat glass cases?

Not always. Curved glass has a more complex manufacturing process, but a well-made curved tempered glass panel with proper support can be safe for normal use.

Q2: Is tempered glass spontaneous breakage common?

No, but it is a known low-probability risk. Taiwan’s BSMI cites around 3 in 1,000 for ordinary tempered glass and around 1 in 50,000 after heat-soak treatment.

Q3: Are screw-mounted glass panels dangerous?

It depends on the design. Screws placed directly through weak glass corners can increase stress, but screws used with a supporting frame or protected mounting structure can improve stability.

Q4: Do I need safety film on a PC case glass panel?

It is not required, but it can be an extra layer of protection. Safety film mainly helps reduce glass scatter after breakage, rather than preventing all breakage.

Final Thoughts: Good Curved Glass Design Should Balance Beauty and Safety

A curved glass PC case does not have to trade safety for looks. The key is not whether the glass is curved or flat, but whether the panel is properly tempered, well supported, carefully packaged, and used correctly. A case like the darkFlash DS900G answers the curved-glass safety concern with a one-piece panoramic glass design, bottom locking structure, strong hardware clearance, and case support for modern cooling layouts.

When buying a curved glass PC case, do not look only at the visual effect. Check the mounting design, glass handling instructions, heat-soak information if available, packaging protection, and brand reputation. That is how you enjoy a clean panoramic build without turning the glass panel into a constant worry.

Are curved glass PC cases easy to break? Not necessarily. The real safety factors are tempered glass quality, edge protection, mounting structure, and careful handling.
