How can I tell which way a case fan moves air?

Check the fan frame for an airflow-direction arrow. The arrow points in the direction the air moves and is the most reliable guide.

Reverse-blade fans may move air in the opposite direction while keeping the preferred side visible. Do not rely on the blade appearance alone.

If the fan has no visible arrow or you are unsure whether it is a standard or reverse-blade model, check the product specifications or scan the QR code on the packaging to access the product manual.

After installation, keep cables and fingers clear of the blades. You can briefly hold a small piece of tissue near the fan to confirm which side draws air in and which side pushes it out, but never insert anything into the fan.

On a standard case fan, air generally:

Enters through the open side of the fan

Exits through the side with the frame supports and motor label

Reverse-blade fans may move air in the opposite direction while keeping the preferred side visible. Do not rely on the blade appearance alone.

Comment savoir dans quel sens souffle l'air d'un ventilateur de boîtier ?

Turn off the PC, switch off the PSU, and unplug the power cord before connecting or disconnecting any fan.

Check the manual for your exact fan hub or controller model, as connector types and supported functions vary.

Do not exceed the number of supported fans or the electrical limits stated for the hub and motherboard header. Do not mix proprietary fan connectors or use an adapter unless compatibility has been specifically confirmed.

If the hub also controls lighting, connect its ARGB synchronization cable only as shown in the manual. Never connect a 3-pin 5V ARGB connector to a 4-pin 12V RGB header.

After starting the PC, confirm that every fan spins. A hub may report the speed of only one fan while controlling all connected fans together; this can be normal.

If a fan does not operate, turn off and unplug the PC before rechecking the hub power, control cable, primary port, and individual fan connections.

How do I connect multiple fans to a hub?

Turn off the PC, switch off the PSU, and unplug the power cord before connecting or disconnecting any fan.

Check the manual for your exact fan hub or controller model, as connector types and supported functions vary.

Follow these general steps:

Connect the hub to its required power source, such as SATA power, if specified.

Connect the hub’s fan-control or PWM cable to the appropriate motherboard fan header.

Connect each compatible fan to a numbered fan port on the hub.

If one port is marked Primary, Master, RPM, or FAN 1, connect a fan to that port so the motherboard can receive a fan-speed reading.

Do not exceed the number of supported fans or the electrical limits stated for the hub and motherboard header. Do not mix proprietary fan connectors or use an adapter unless compatibility has been specifically confirmed.

How can I troubleshoot a PC case fan that is not working properly?

Shut down the computer, switch off the power supply, and unplug the power cable before inspecting or reconnecting a fan.

Check the following:

Make sure that no cables or other objects are touching the fan blades.

Remove dust from the fan blades and surrounding vents using compressed air or a soft brush.

Confirm that the fan power cable is securely connected to a compatible motherboard fan header or fan hub.

If you are using a fan hub, check its power connection and the cable connecting it to the motherboard.

Check the BIOS or compatible fan-control software for the fan curve and the correct PWM or DC control mode. Some fans may stop or spin slowly when system temperatures are low.

If the fan spins but its lighting does not work, check the separate ARGB or RGB cable and controller connection.

Never connect a 5 V three-pin ARGB connector to a 12 V four-pin RGB header.

If the connectors are compatible, test the fan using another motherboard header or controller port. This can help determine whether the issue is with the fan, motherboard header, hub, or controller.
